A Craving Only Pop Music Could Fulfill
Even though I am a self-admitted indie music snob, I too crave the sweet goodness of tasty pop rock. Not punk pop, but the type that I have recently found myself addicted to that consists of Augustana and Justin Nozuka.
Augustana's new album, Can't Love Can't Hurt, was a highly anticipated sophomore album around the SCOPE community, as we have a huge fan of theirs on board. I could call myself a fan of Augustana, however, I found myself a bit disappointed with All The Stars and Boulevards album as a whole. There were songs that were really impressive and others that were very average. This newest creation is a direct improvement, highlighted with some deep, heartfelt tracks that compliment the faster, poppy counterparts. I think it is a good sign that I have yet to distinguish one, favorite track. Watch the video for "Sweet and Low"
p.s. I did not know that Augustana was filled with attractive men, even with blood on their fingers.
Justin Nozuka brings the Justin Timberlake-esque white boy soul that so many singer-songwriter guitarists lack. His voice has the soul that stops acoustic rock from being one big snoozefest. I could not believe that he was only 19 after I listened to him. The NYC native but now Canadian resident has made some tracks that carry a catchy rhythm similar to a Jack Johnson tune, a rhyming talent close to Jason Mraz, but the deeper soul roots that are comparable to Rocco DeLucca. I know that sounds like quite the mesh of things that will make him sound like nothing special, but if you spend some time listening, you might agree with me that he is something rather special.
