Georgie James is what pop music should be. I must have been completely out of it, not following up on my music, as Georgie James is a duo, one part featuring John Davis, drummer of the lost-but-not-forgotten pop band Q and not U, and singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn. They produced their debut album Places on Saddle Creek Records (home of other indie favorites, Bright Eyes, Cursive, Maria Taylor, and Tokyo Police Club) May 2007. Listening to the radio in a daze, I was pleasantly surprised by the upbeat tunes and melodic voices coming from the speakers. By the third song, Cake Parade, I was completely entranced. How had I passed this band by for these past two years!? Anyway, take a listen, if you haven't heard of this spirited band from D.C. by now. If you have, listen to it anyway, and enjoy the ride.

Smacks, perhaps, of a sunnier Amanda Palmer.
Have you listened to the new CD yet? (No, Virginia, that is)? I got it today, but haven't had a chance to indulge myself into it quite fully.
No, I haven't heard it yet...I saw some live stuff of a solo Amanda doing some tracks, but no studio offerings. Let me know what you think.
If you like the dynamic of this band, you should most definitely check out the Submarines.
