The Real Deal

I wish I could say that I knew more about this character right here, but I do not. What I do know is that this kid rocks the ivory harder than any other youtube star out there right now. His name is Ronald Jenkees, and he's got sort of that geek chic think going in spades: the plaid fedora, the thick-rimmed glasses, and he's even got the croakies making sure those specs stay on nice and tight. And with that southern drawl, he manages to make saying "thanks y'all, peace out" sound whiter than ever imaginable. But he's also got this really innocent and endearing quality about him. The way he intros with a greeting to all the viewers ("Hello, youtubes"), his humble finish ("That was a lot of fun"), and the way he signs off with an encouragement to all the future musicians out there ("Keep playing, even if its simple stuff. You can have a whole lot of fun just jamming out to Mary Had A Little Lamb, okay? So just keep going"). Most surprising, however, is just how damn catchy these "beats" are. If I were a hip-hop producer today, I would grab this kid quick (after I got over the overwhelming feeling of shame that this kid could do my job better than me). The second vid is my personal favorite.

Regular listeners of the Sports Guy Podcast on ESPN.com will recognize these sounds from the opening and closing credits. Simmons has loved dude for years, and has made everyone very aware of it.
