In case you missed it, or slept through it in my case, here's the video from Kings of Leon's performance on the Today Show. 20,000 people applied for fan passes for this show which is more than any other performance on Today. Ever. Meredith Vieira even compared them to U2. I think its safe to say that KOL have officially blown up. The Followill boys will begin a 30 date U.S. arena tour on August 9th. Close midwest dates will be in Milwaukee (Sept. 26), Kansas City (Oct. 13th), and Minneapolis (Sept. 28th).
Monsters of Folk is the new project of Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M. Ward (solo/She & Him), Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes). Amazing, right?? Check out some streams of their new songs. AND they will be stopping in Chicago on tour in October. Yay!
I've been pretty big into Blitzen Trapper for a while now, but saw them live for the first time last night at the Picador. I was of course amazed and impressed and was left with a newfound love for Eric Earley. Of course I was super bummed I didn't get Sunday Pitchfork tickets to see them again, but thanks to slb, I discovered some Pfork vids.
Check out a funny little interview about B.T. fashion.
Here's one of my favorite tracks off of Furr (their first album on Sub Pop), "Lady on the Water."
Recently, Blitzen Trapper recorded their record fourth Daytrotter session. Check that out here.
The variety of music in their songs is what I love the most. There are more folky songs like "Black River Killer," and "Furr," more edgy songs like "Love U," songs that just make you want to dance like "Saturday Nite," and slow tunes like "Echo." Oh, p.s. those are all on the same album.
I love it when music videos can actually hold my attention for the duration of the song, which Passion Pit has done twice. Here's the new video for "Eyes as Candles" not "To Kingdom Come." Can't wait to see them at Lolla.
In honor of me getting my Dead Weather tickets in the mail today, here's another Dead Weather video. This video for "Treat Me Like Your Mother" is basically Jack and Alison Mossheart (of the Kills) shooting each other up. So motherly... The Dead Weather - Treat Me Like Your Mother
