i'm the shan who loves you

I was planning to stay in tonight to let my liver take a breather, but then I was reminded that Wilco will be performing on Saturday Night Live, an event that makes the idea of curling up on the couch with my laptop seem like the best thing to happen in a long time.

The band is featured in today's Des Moines Register in a preview for their upcoming concert next Sunday at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines. The show will no doubt be amazing...the performance they put on at the UI last fall certainly was. It's this ability to perform that makes tonight's live TV performance even more exciting.

I'm actually geeking out trying to guess which songs the group will play. My money's on "Impossible Germany," a song played every single night during the band's sold-out five day stay in Chicago. Now I know music is no exception to the quality not quantity rule, but this song is so addictive that it deserves to be played every night.

Rated #71 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Song of 2007, "Impossible Germany" is the type of slow burn guitar jam that will haunt you after one listen. The dueling guitar solos that comprise the last three minutes of the song are irresistibly sexy and showcase the band's musical talent.

Don't say I didn't warn you when you feel compelled to give your make out friend a call early tonight after giving it a spin. As for me, I'll be on the couch doing homework on a Saturday night. Rock and roll.
