Taking Back Sunday announced today that Matt Fazzi will replace Fred Mascherino as lead guitarist for all the band's new studio releases and live performances. Fazzi is formerly of Facing New York, a band I know nothing about so feel free to enlighten me with your thoughts on them. I'm pretty sure, however, that this can be considered a career upgrade for him.
Even though I'm excited to hear the new material featuring Fazzi, I feel like I need to pour one out for Fred (and not just because he vaguely resembles Ryan Gosling). Fred's riffs were the standout on TBS's most recent album, Louder Now. Here's Fred owning it (skip to minute 2:30) on the DVD version of that album in "Liar (It Takes One to Know One)." I guess this is goodbye, Fred Mascherino, because I think we all know no one is going to listen to your solo project, The Color Fred.

So, a couple of things:
a) I loved Fred. I met him b/f the TBS show in IC, and he was pretty much the nicest guy in the world.
b) I feel like Fred MADE Where You Want To Be as flippin' sweet as it was.
c) In spite of a fairly decent sized man-crush I have on Adam, it saddens me to hear that the band went ahead and okayed the autotuning on his vocals for the live DVD. Anyone who's been to any TBS show knows that Adam's voice doesn't sound quite like that live. Fred usually pulled off the vocals live. Adam, sorry dawg. You ain't foolin anyone.
